One time the playground for Denver's early 20th century elite and the former residence of both Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, Capitol Hill real estate has emerged as some of the most eclectic and signifying in the Denver metro area. Large, regal brick homes from the 1920s flourish in this neighborhood which is filled with mansions, converted apartments and hi-rise residences. In a sea of ever-changing building designs and structures, buyers of Capital Hill homes are proud to be a part of what Denver once was.
Bound by Colfax Avenue on the North, Seventh Avenue on the South, Downing Street on the East and Broadway on the West, there is an artistic and wildly bohemian vibrancy that has come to characterize Denver's mostly densely populated neighborhood. Its apartments are extremely popular with musicians, artists and young city dwellers. With its immediacy to other neighborhoods such as Uptown (including the hospital district), LoDo and the Golden Triangle, life in Capitol Hill includes everything from business lunches to punk shows at night.
With both the State Capitol Building and two well-known music venues (The Ogden and The Fillmore) in its boundaries, Capitol Hill has largely come to represent the commerce and recreation mix that has made Denver such a well-liked city. Adding to that is the proximity to two very close parks (Cheeseman and Civic Center), the Denver Art Museum, the legendary Wax Trax record store and other numerous coffee shops, restaurants, cafes and boutiques.
While city planning and growth has inevitably caused some gentrification, residents of Capitol Hill hope to keep their neighborhood in tact for the sake of its occupants, its patrons and its past.
